Join us in song as we welcome in the summer and celebrate the final song circle of our spring season. This special Big Sing is open to the public — all voices are welcome, regardless of singing experience. Group singing has proven health benefits, and there’s nothing quite like the joy and solidarity of making music together. Come sing for the health of it, the connection, and the fun of it! This will be the last community song circle at HUUF until September, so don’t miss it. Suggested donation: $5–$25 (children free). No one turned away for lack of funds. Childcare will be provided
Bring a dish for a potluck as we continue our celebrations after singing!
Donations from the Big Sing will benefit Páah Áama Paddle Club, an organization whose mission aligns with our social justice values and connects to the river theme that runs through our song circles all year long. Páah Áama Paddle Club supports indigenous youth from the Klamath River basin and coastal Humboldt in river kayaking and other culturally-based activities — and they were part of helping the first descent of the Klamath River happen last year.
Song circles are part of HUUF’s Music Ministry program, led by Maggie McKnight. Maggie grew up singing harmonies with her family and studying classical piano and violin alongside bluegrass fiddle. Since 2013 she has led community song circles and helped people reconnect with the joy of singing. She served as musical director of the Arcata Threshold Choir for eight years and is a firm believer that singing is everybody’s birthright. She lives with her wife and two daughters in Arcata.
