 Religious Exploration CORNER

Hello Sweet Families!

Last week, I shared a little bit about the shift in languaging around our RE program.  One of our beloved congregants was kind enough to point out a bit of a misstep in my word choices, however.  How the word “educate” actually means “to draw out”…. and how we at HUUF have always endeavored to create a space wherein the natural character, brilliance, conscience and illumination of our youth could be brought forth.
So, let this move from “Education” to “Exploration” be a continuation then, rather than a divergence from the work we’ve always done here.
As we move into this year, we aim to re-affirm and re-ignite this well-worn path of creating opportunities that draw out the numinous within us all.

Here are some of the pathways for connection in the weeks to come:
This Sunday, September 12th marks the first week our incoming minister, Rev. Peter Farriday will be speaking, and also the official start of our Religious Exploration (RE) program for 2021-22.  Our RE Teachers – Artist Debbie Kallish, Community Organizer Sabrina Miller & Children’s Yoga & Mindfulness expert Jessalyn DeLucchi – have created a wonderful multi-age, outdoor classroom experience on this month’s theme of “Embracing Possibility”.
From Readers’ Theatre to Yoga games and activities to Collage work, we will have something to engage kids of all ages and interests.
Please, join us – masked & outdoors – at our 11 am service
You can reserve your spot by going here.

SoREUUnite!

Pack your basket, and your blanket, (and your masks!), and join us for our annual SoREUUnite event – following the service on Sunday, September 26th from 1-3pm.
We’ll spread out on the lawn, each family with their own self-catered picnic, and have the opportunity to reconnect through some activities from our new RE Teaching staff, a brief tour of the ongoing Playscape project, lawn games, hula hooping, and perhaps a little (safe) & socially-distanced sing-along.  Contact DLRE, Amy Day, for more details.

 Choose to Bless the World

Sunday, September 12 at 11 a.m.

Many of you already know that September’s Soul Matters topic is “Embracing Possibility.” I can’t imagine a more fitting theme as we begin our shared ministry

On our first Sunday together, Rev. Farriday will reflect on aspects of this, including how we might embrace UU minister Rebecca Parker’s invitation to “Choose to Bless the World” in the most powerful
ways possible. This Ingathering Sunday customarily includes a “Gathering of the Waters” ritual. Because the pandemic is still with us, in lieu of individual water-sharing, the service leaders will instead blend local waters on everyone’s behalf – waters that flow together to nourish our lives and our Fellowship.

 Possibilities Within Limits

Join Us!  –(in person)

We come to contemplate these questions again and again throughout our lifetimes, arriving at different answers each time. This interactive service will offer us an encounter with the question: What are the possibilities within limits in your life currently? Sunday, September 19 at 11 a.m.

During these times of constant transition, sometimes the path ahead seems obscure.
What possibilities might we find ahead?
What obstacles might we encounter?

There is one more upcoming opportunity to join Reverend Peter Farriday for a “meet and greet” engagement on Zoom.
