To the Beloved Community~
The early portions of last week, for me, were one just to simply be “gotten through”. As I have at many points, during the last year, I found myself in a valley of sorts, of the soul. I did all the things one is supposed to do. The walks. The time in nature. The rest. The eating of vegetables and extra water and vitamins and compassion and care. And still I remained in the valley. It was not until Saturday evening – when our monthly online Song Circle commenced again – and Sandy Lynn brought her sweet ukulele and chords and lyrics for us all to sing along to, and Therese & Tommy Fitzmaurice brought their guitars and sat at their household piano, and my daughter and I opened our mouths and joined them from afar… It was only then that I was able to feel my being begin to rise up from the valley.
Then Sunday – and the beautiful, medicinal sounds of Lea Morris holding us inside morning worship. And I felt tears involuntarily spring from my eyes, as the inward ice began to thaw.
And I was reminded, again, of just how simple – yet powerful – this gift of music is.
So, in hopes of sharing more healing and less verbiage with you all this week, I leave you with this offering from the prophetic Melanie DeMore.
Because sometimes words are the thing we need to unlock our own inner store of healing & restoration.
And sometimes, mere words will not do. We need, as another favorite musical ensemble wrote: “A melody to open our hearts”.
Whether you find yourself inside the valley, atop the mountain peak, or somewhere in between right now: May you seek and find the nourishment and healing your soul is needing. Sometimes, we find it in the simplest, yet easily forgotten places. May you be guided to them today. yours,
in grace & gratitude,
Amy Day (she/her)

- So many locks, not enough keys! ~ the HUUF rekeying project: In the spirit of spring renewal and maintaining a secure space for all, HUUF will be rekeying the building on Saturday, April 24. If you are a committee chair or in a leadership position that requires access to the building at times when staff is not present, please contact Board co-pres., David Marshak or Bridgette in the HUUF office to arrange for a key exchange. “Don’t be discouraged, it’s often the last key on the ring that opens the lock.”

Ann will be the Keynote speaker presenting Life Care Humboldt current plans and status. Find the meeting Zoom link at fcahumboldt.org
- Phishing Scam – Don’t be Fooled!: A few weeks back the UUA let us know of a phishing scam circulating in the Pacific Western Region. This scam has now hit home! Someone pretending to be Berti Welty, is asking people via email to purchase gift cards on her behalf. DO NOT RESPOND TO THESE EMAILS. They are fraudulent!
- COMING UP – Join Us: April 25th at 11:00 AM for next Sunday’s Service: It Takes Practice: Join Rev. Matt Meyer for a musical exploration of learning to risk, building the muscle memory of courage, and the spiritual practice of relationship when things around us are changing fast. Matt is a musician and worship leader who has led hundreds of services for UU congregations across the country. He has a degree in hand drumming and serves as Director of Community Life for Sanctuary Boston. How to Re-Socialize After the Pandemic
|
|
|
We are spent.
We have nothing left to say.
We are tired of saying “I miss you” and “I can’t wait for this to end.”
So we mostly say nothing, put our heads down and get through each day.
This is a segment of a poem written by Donna Ashworth, featured in a recent article written by Kira M. Newman, UC Berkeley Greater Good Science Center. This valuable information is meant to be shared, so here it is– Please click
