Community Grief Ritual and Workshops: Grief Song Circle

Date/Time
Date(s) - 10/18/2024
4:00 pm - 5:30 pm

Art and ceremony can serve as a medium to allow us to encounter potent topics giving rise to an emergence of collective strength and transformation. When we take pause, deeply honor our feelings and tears, new insights and possibilities can ignite. Healing can occur.

Community song circles welcome all voices, bringing together people who love to sing, regardless of experience level. Song circles don’t focus on performing for an audience; instead, the circle is focused on learning songs from a variety of traditions by call-and-response, and singing for the joy of creating something beautiful together in the moment. Group singing is a powerful way of connecting with each other, and with something deep within ourselves. The music we make as we support each other through song calls forth the singing voice that is every humans birthright.
Maggie Mcknight has sung and played in various choirs and musical groups over the years, and since 2013 has been leading community song circles and helping people reconnect with the joy of singing. She was the musical director to the Arcata Threshold Choir for 8 years and is a firm believer that
singing is everybody birthright.

The next and final Community Grief and Ritual Workshop will be Saturday October 19th at HUUF
