Having just returned from an educational tour of Turkey, with a focus on the study of Islam and Mevlana Rumi, the Rev. Jamila Tharp will share reflections on her trip. Topics will include: Where Buddhists love mindfulness, Sufis love ‘heartfulness;’ in Turkish there are no male or female pronouns, just one pronoun for everyone; and how to read Rumi’s seminal writing, “The Masnavi.”
To many Westerners, Rumi’s teachings about love are one of the best introductions to the philosophy, mysticism and practice of Sufism, the tradition of Radical Love that is at the heart of the Islamic path.
