Sunday Services
Sunday, September 1, 11:00 a.m. — Friday Poets Rise Again! — Pat McCutcheon
In this hybrid Labor Day service, the Friday Poets offer you a Poem Potpourri of works they’ve written in this past year. In person and on the Zoom screen, topics will range from nature to family to aging and beyond.
Sunday, September 8, 11:00 a.m. — Gathering of the Waters — Amy Day
After the delightful to and fro of the summer, we gather to bring the diverse tributaries of our lives into the fold of the Whole. If you like, bring a small bit of water from your seasonal adventures to replenish our collective waters. We’ll once more practice anointing and washing one another’s feet (for those who would like to) to steep ourselves in the energy of service and connection. Come let your cup be filled!
Sunday, September 15, 11:00 a.m. — Melanie DeMore
Vividly remembered from her last visit many years ago as a dynamic and creative singer and teacher, Melanie DeMore focuses on issues we care about, with intense, beautiful music.
Sunday, September 22, 11:00 a.m. — The Invitation — Amy Day
How do we summon change, both on the personal and societal levels? The poets would tell us that rather than ever more striving and effort we must instead “create a clearing in the dense forest of our lives and wait there patiently, until the song that is our life falls into our own cupped hands.”
Come as we investigate how to cultivate these sacred clearings, to invite the type of lasting transformation our souls long for.
Sunday, September 29, 11:00 a.m. — Consensus as a Spiritual Practice for Building Community — Bonnie MacGregor, Corazon Amada, Josh Charles
Your presence is needed. This is a key service for the life of our community. This is a chance to learn one way to connect with and serve your fellows and yourself. This service will also prepare you for one of the most important services all year, happening the following Sunday: the All Congregational Meeting, during which we will engage in a facilitated consensus process to make our way to a crucial decision together about the future of HUUF that will affect all of us. Don’t miss this opportunity.
Consensus isn’t just a way for a group of people to make decisions. It’s a way of building and maintaining healthy, connected relationships between a group of people. Voting can be faster (voting can be part of a consensus process), but consensus is better because it’s a way of building and repairing community. Consensus is a practice of showing how we care for each other as we slow down, listen deeply, and inclusively weave what we each value most into a decision reflecting a common-unity we all reach together.
There are more ways to find consensus than there are groups of people seeking it. At this service we will explore what consensus building means in this Fellowship and get a brief chance to practice those skills together.
